Question by vulpix_grant: Does the Consumer Reports “New Car Report” Save at the dealership?
Thinking about getting a new car, and I’ve been bamboozled more times in my 9 years of driving then I would like to admit.
Does the Consumer Reports um… Report actually give you a advantage in the hot seat? They say the report gives you the Actual Price the dealer paid for the vehicle, and all factory options prices to the dealer. This along with hidden incentives and the C.R. thing sez you can identify the exact price the dealership paid for a vehicle.
Has anybody used this system, and does it really work?

Yes. IF you follow their suggestions. Although quite a while ago, following the suggestions in CR, I was prepared to make the delaer an offer. I “accidentally” let the salesman see my CR vehicle report in my hands, and without any dickering, he made the first offer: $ 100 less than my minimum offer was going to be! Also, CR will show you the dealer and factory rebates/incentives that sometimes the dealer won’t tell you about. AND…read the book with the title, ” Don’t Get Taken Every Time: The Ultimate Guide to Buying or Leasing a Car, in the Showroom or on the Internet,” by Remar Sutton. Fantastic book! Good luck.
