The state drivers’ manual could soon include information about how dogs left in hot cars can die, after a national animal rights group asked the Motor Vehicle Division to add warnings about the heat’s deadly consequences.

From New York to California, from as far north as Wisconsin to southern Florida, children are dying in hot cars at alarming rates. At least 36 children have died so far this year in the United States, with more summer weather still to come.
